Keeping Wyatt and Battle of the Bands

A ton has been going on since the last time we’ve updated. First and foremost, this semester we signed Keeping Wyatt to Madstop Records. We released their CD in October and it’s been a huge success!

Second of all, Madstop Records is hosting their bi-annual three-week long Battle of the Bands Competition. The Battle takes place at Backstreets, a local bar downtown that has proven to be a good place for music and drink. The bands win a gift certificate to the local music store, Northern Music. Round I took place on Friday, November 6th. The bands competing were Marty Horn and Friends, Carpo Phorus, Abbott Hayes, and Folmsbee County Fair. After tallying the votes, Abbott Hayes and Folmsbee County Fair made it through to the Final Round. Round II took place on Friday, November 13th. Bands competing were Hand Yer Dealt, Echo Drive, Sedanimal, and Peter House. After the votes were in, Hand Yer Dealt and Echo Drive moved forward to the Final Round.
The Final Round of the Battle of the Bands Competition takes place this Friday, November 20th at 7:30. As usual, it will take place at Backstreets, (31 Market St, 18+). 3$ at the door will gain you access to a phenomenal line-up of music: Hand Yer Dealt, Echo-Drive, Folmsbee County Fair, and Abbot Hayes. Voting will be held until the end and a prize will be given out to the winner of the Competition.

Two things!

First, congrats to our very own Morphium Theory for winning the Clarkson Battle of the Bands a few weeks ago! The votes came in and Morphium came out on top yet again. Their upcoming album is in the mixing phase right now and sounding awesome, so make sure you keep your eyes (and ears) open for that

SECOND: BATTLE OF THE BANDS PART ONE was a HUGE success. With over 200 people in attendance at La Casbah, Madstop’s own Ryan Ashe along with Goblin Grenade, The Indras, and Abbott Hayes battled it out to become on of the two bands moving forward to our final round on Saturday April 18th. Our winners were GOBLIN GRENADE & ABBOTT HAYES! So congrats to both bands!

Make sure you come out next Friday (the 10th) for Round Two! Featuring Olivia Quillio, Keeping Wyatt, Third Rail & The Amazelingtons. Doors are at 7:30 so make sure you get there nice and early to hear all your fabulous options and vote for the best two. And YES, this show is 18+. See you there!

BATTLE OF THE BANDS IS BOOKED! Come out this April to The Casbah to help your favorite bands win! This year we are featuring The Amazelingtons, The Furies, Goblin Grenade, Goodnight Moon, Keeping Wyatt, Quasar Abode, Olivia Quillio, and Third Rail! Our Calendar page has the details on which bands are which night :]

I also just added the recent photoshoot we had with The Morphium Theory under the Media tab, as well as the video produced for Cities Over Seas’ “The Kitchen Party” last semester. Photos from The Morphium Theory’s recent show at Hurley’s will be up shortly, so keep checking back!

DIDJA MISS US? Well, miss no more! We are back and better than ever with TONS of new updates/promotions/goings on up here in good ‘ol Potsdam.

FIRST AND FOREMOST: At the end of the Fall ’08 semester, we officially signed THE MORPHIUM THEORY! They are currently working hard in the studio on their album, but we’d like to get you more involved in the process. If you’re interested in checking out a live recording session with The Morphium Theory, look around campus for the sweet neon fliers for more information. There will be a raffle for the winner after all submissions have been received (by February 13th), so get your name in!

In other big news, we have booked our Spring ’09 BATTLE OF THE BANDS dates, and yes, this year’s competition will be held at La Casbah! If your band is interested, please email madstop@potsdam.edu. Dates for Battle are listed in the calendar tab.
